Response To Tragedy At East High School

Dear Worldmind Community,

As we begin to unwind and take some time to rest and recharge during our Spring Break next week, we wanted to respond to the terrible tragedy at East High School this week.

We mourn alongside our City Park, Denver, and Colorado communities, and offer each other compassion, empathy, love, and support.

As parents and educators, it can feel overwhelming to talk to our children when tragedy strikes. Here are a few resources to help you have these conversations:

Please give yourself grace and practice self-compassion right now; stress and traumatic events present themselves differently in everyone. If you would like support, remember you can always call the Colorado Crisis and Support line at 988 or reach out to us at Worldmind.

As a reminder, here are a few of the Worldmind security measures. If you feel it is helpful, please also share with your student(s):

  • Risk assessment is an essential part of operations at Worldmind. All members of staff are required to participate in the risk assessment process and ensure that all activities, sites, and groups are assessed according to these guidelines.

  • We keep the gates at the Milheim locked at all times.

  • All remote locations have indoor emergency shelters.

  • We practice emergency drills as a school at each location.

  • We have detailed weather and safety protocols that were created with the help of professionals in a variety of different fields.

  • We do extensive safety training with staff at the beginning of each new school year and as needed.

  • Worldmind Status Alerts

    • Green - Normal. Monitoring of a potential hazard is ongoing, but operations are as normal.

    • Yellow - Moderate. A moderate disruption has occurred that is expected to last a short time.

    • Orange - Severe. An emergency has occurred that significantly disrupts school operations for an extended period. Alert will be a phone call or text message.

    • Red - Extreme. Emergency conditions have seriously impaired or halted operations. Alert will be a phone call.

We look forward to coming together after the break to discuss what we can do as a community to support each other, and the larger community around us.
